"Dress code outrage"
Evelin Hernandez
I chose this topic because it is an issue that most students in schools, have an issue with the dress codes at their schools. I think that it is ok to ban some things that are maybe too sexual or a distraction to the learning environment but some of the thing most schools ban are just dumb. For example, girls can’t wear spaghetti straps or they will get in trouble and have to change. In my opinion, showing off the shoulders isn’t that big of a deal, ask a boy and they would probably say that it doesn’t distract them when a girl is wearing a spaghetti strap shirt. The argument that I will make is that the school board is changing the dress code and basically dress them like they aren’t attending school and the students will get mad because they don’t like the new dress code even though they have tried to dress like that before. I think that students that are probably in middle school or high school because they know how annoying it is for teacher and administration to tell them that what they are wearing is unacceptable. I don’t think middle aged people would understand my satire because they probably didn’t have these problems when they were in high school. I chose to do a news article because it was easier to do then the other ones and also it makes more sense to me since I been exposed to reading news articles satire more than videos and songs satires. I think my news article had a lot of sarcasm and offended some people (i.e. white boys). I used situational irony because, you would expect the girls and the boys to be happy about the new dress code, juxtaposition because I placed a student, Julie, that was for the new dress code, and lastly hyperbole because it was over exaggerating basically everything about the clothing that would have to be worn and if you didn’t you would be suspended.
In current national headlines, we have students protesting outside the school board about the new dress code. The new dress code was voted on yesterday, without even asking the parents what they thought about it.
The new dress code states that girls can’t cover up anymore, they can even go to school naked if they want. Jeans now can have holes ANYWHERE imaginable; shirts have to be “spaghetti” straps, it doesn’t matter if you’re showing off those sexy shoulders of yours and distracting the boys. And then there is the topic of dresses and skirts they have to be the shortest they can possibly be, no worrying about being below the knee anymore. Also states that they can only wear stripper high heels, even if they are at risk of falling face first when going up or down the lovely stairs their schools has. The girls outside participating in the rally, were outraged and almost crying. We talked to, Julie Slay, who is a hardcore Muslim, about what she though about the new dress code, “well, I honestly don’t understand these girls. They should be thankful for these caring men in the school board are doing for us.” “What do you mean by that?” asked our reporter, Evelin Hernandez. Her response caused almost every girl there to almost kill the poor Julie, “well, before the dress code change these h*** tried to break every rule by dressing like they were going out with their friends but now they want to be modest” “And we image, you will be following through the dress code” “Heck yeah, my parents can’t stop from taking this hideous thing I have on. Even if they don’t want me to, they have to let me or I will get iss or get suspended”.
On the other hand, for the lovely gentleman they are now required to dress like professionals; say goodbye to your shoe game, boys. Obviously, the dress code rules aren’t as serious as the girls but for the white boys it is another story. Around the world, white boys are known as the ones that wear short shorts all year, no matter the weather but now it is a different story. They are no longer allowed to wear those beautiful shorts meant for girls, they have to wear pants. To non-white boys it was no biggie, but image the loud screams and tears heard from the white boys around the world. Jake Silver spoke to us and told us what the school board was being so unfair, because he had spent the summer working on his leg muscles.
It seemed forever till we got an exclusive interview from head of the school board. When asked why the change of the dress code, he stated “They need to understand that we only did it for their happiness. They would always complain about the other dress code… you can’t please these kids” when the kids heard this they went crazy, you could hear them screaming “NO, I only dressed like that for attention!” “We want the old dress code back now!” and several other lines that have words these ungrateful kids shouldn’t be using. Like the school board leader said, you can never please kids.
